The Frighteners (1996)
HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST stays humpin’ and this mid-week sub theme is “ghosts, spirits, and haunts” and we go for a bit lighter spooky fare with Peter Jackson’s 1996 comedy-horror “The Frighteners” starring Michael J. Fox as a man who can see ghosts and makes a buck off of it. There’s also Starkweather type antagonists and an FBI agent who is beyond absurd. This was Peter Jackson’s most mainstream movie at this time and was also Michael J. Fox’s last lead performance in a feature film. This was years into his initial Parkinson’s diagnosis. It’s an absolutely loaded spookshow with that very familiar tone of “creepy whimsey” that would pop up in movies during this era. Many love this flick but where are we on it? Hear us, and our dog noises, to find that out.
