The Mark of Zorro (1940)

For this month’s theme of ADOLESCENT POWER FANTASY we’re spending our Mondays looking at the film roots of today’s ADOLESCENT POWER FANTASY and the character of Zorro is a fine place to start. Dual identities, protector of everyday citizens, son of wealth. Hey, Zorro sounds like he might be kind of influential to that one guy in Gotham City with the ears. The sword on sword action goes pleasantly hard in Rouban Mamoulian’s 1940 adventure film “The Mark of Zorro” starring the super hunk Tyrone Power and the sneering swag of Basil Rathbone. Seriously, this movie might have the best sword fight we’ve ever seen. Seek it out and then seek out this discussion.
