At least once a month we review a movie that is completely randomly generated from a random movie title generator website and last time the movie gods randomly bestowed upon us an English black comedy about four bumbling Jihadis who seek to do a suicide bombing. An absurd, hilariously and strangely touching comedy directed by notorious satirist Chris Morris. His first film. We’re talking about the 2010 comedy “Four Lions”. You can find it on Tube as of this posting. We watched it on Pluto for the subtitles and it kinda sucked. Not the movie. The movie was good. Pluto kind of sucked. We randomly generate our next randomly generated review at the end of this episode and it’s an exciting one.

Manhunter (1986)

May’s theme is MICHAEL MANN MAY and next up on the docket is the crime thriller that also happens to be the first film adaptation of Thomas Harris’s “Hannibal Lector” novels. It’s not as well known as Jonathan Demme’s “Silence of the Lambs” but it stands out in its own special ways with some genuinely creepy and memorable performances. We’re talking about Michael Mann’s third feature film from 1986, “Manhunter”. It stars William Petersen, Tom Noonan, Dennis Farina, Joan Allen and a criminally underrated performance by Brian Cox as “Hannibal Lector”. Go watch this. It’s better than all the movies post-Silence of the Lambs. Imagine an alternate universe where Michael Mann tackled ALL of the Hannibal Lector movies. That’s a lot of Tangerine Dream!

Sunset Boulevard (1950)

Bob Sham and Angela are looking to get into more classic era discussions and since it’s Michael Mann May and we’re up in some noir, why not look back at some older Hollywood eras where there is no shortage of the genre. We’re not entirely sure how we missed Billy Wilder’s iconic film “Sunset Boulevard” but we at least we got to sit down and watch it for the very first time. Some mighty fine and acclaimed Film Noir starring William Holden and Gloria Swanson in a role of a lifetime. And what about that chimp? This movie is ripe for prequel. We got to know more that chimp!

Thief (1981)

May's theme is "Michael Mann May" and we're gonna talk about as many Michael Mann movies as we are able so why not go with Mann's first theatrically released film from 1981? James Caan crushes it, gritty-ass Chicago style with extra sport peppers, in the awesome modern noir flick, "Thief". Wait until you see Willie Nelson in this movie and don't expect your typical "Sweet Home Chicago" Jim Belushi up in this piece because the shit is getting hot. This is the good stuff. High end diamond level moviemaking. We're wearing $800 shirts now.

It's a New Zealand film and it stars James Rolleston who does a swell job. We select our next MOVIE ROULETTE REVIEW movie at the end of the discussion. April's theme is "Awkward Laughter" and we went for a deep cut instead of...oh, I don't know...a classic by Mel Brooks but whatever. Amy Heckerling directed this spoof of mobster movies from 1984 called "Johnny Dangerously" starring a pretty fresh faced Michael Keaton and all kinds of great 80s comedy stars. I'm thinking of committing crimes after watching this.

Hot Shots! (1991)

April's theme is "Awkward Laughter" and though we somehow didn't get to a Mel Brooks, Monty Python, or "Airplane!" we did have a pretty iconic one in mind. We're talking about the Top Gun spoof "Hots Shots!" starring Charlie Sheen & Carey Elwes. Also, Lloyd Bridges is amazing in this movie. One of his finest performances. I'd vote for him.

National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1 (1993)

April's theme is "Awkward Laughter" and our next spoofy comedy is one Bob remembers based on one joke that is still funny after all these years. We're talking about the star studded Lethal Weapon parody "National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1" starring Emilio Estavez, Sam Jackson & Jon Lovitz who crushed it. The celebrity cameos are kind of surprising. Hollywood really came together for this one. Bob's never seen Lethal Weapon, the movie this is spoofing. Unless it's randomly generated then it probably won't happen.
